From David Young,
This past week, the SGI Altix at the Alabama Supercomputer Center was upgraded. This expansion added 44 CPU cores and 288 GB of memory into the largest Altix 450 node. This upgrade was selected based on user feedback requesting capabilities to run more large memory jobs. This gives the system the capability to run jobs with up to 430 GB of memory and 72 CPU cores within a single shared memory node.
With this addition, the SGI Altix now exceeds the capabilities of the Cray XD1 in terms of both floating point processing power and memory availability. Users will see an increase in the number of jobs that each user can have running at one time.
