Build tools that reliably automate the repetitive tasks involved in creating software are lifesavers. This page is a placeholder parent page for information on build automation tools. This should slowly grow into a resource that, at least, contains quick start guides for the popular build tools that we use here.
- Ant: An almost universal choice for Java projects. As it is Java-based, and has been designed to be platform and shell independent to a good extent, it may indeed be a good choice for other projects too.
- Make: The standard tool for C and C++ projects is well-documented in the Make Manual.
- Read ch 1 and the first part of ch 2 in the 'Pragmatic Automation' book.
